Ohio State coach Jim Foster has added another highly ranked recruit to his 2008 recruiting class as Sunday evening he received a verbal commitment from Amber Stokes. Stokes is ranked as the No. 63 prospect in the class according to HoopGurlz.com and the No. 21 guard.
Stokes’ commitment makes two top 100 recruits including one of the nation’s best point guard’s in Samantha Prahalis from Long Island, N.Y. They are still waiting on a third commitment from current freshman, Janetel Lavender’s former club team, Ayana Dunning. Dunning is ranked No. 14 in the class and is still trying to decide from her final five.
Securing Dunning would not only rejoin the interior powerhouse duo but also give Ohio State back-to-back recruiting classes with three players ranked in the top 100. Their current freshman class includes Lavender (No. 3), Brittney Johnson (No. 34) and Allison Jackson (No. 62).

Ayana Dunning Still Undecided
Stokes is a high energy super athletic combo guard who is best suited as a slashing scorer from the off-guard position. She gets up and down the court as well as anyone and is at her best attacking the basket. This summer she played some point guard for her club team, All-Ohio Black, but had her most impressive games on the wing. She plays longer than her height on defense. She is listed at 5-foot-10 but users her length and athleticism very well. When she’s aggressive she is a very good on-ball defender.
Stokes athleticism as well as the arrival of “The Show” as Prahalis was recently dubbed by Glenn Nelson, publisher of HoopGurlz.com, gives them the ability to play a really fast tempo when they arrive. This fits in well with their 2007 class as Johnson is also incredibly quick and well suited in the open court and Lavender is a rebounding machine on top of her ability to score in the half court.
Other News
In other news from Ohio Cierra Harris, a 6-foot-1 forward from Firestone High School in Akron verbally committed to Dayton and is expected to sign in the early period this November. She lead her team to Ohio Regionals and averaged 14 points and 10 reboundds. Harris plays her summer ball for the CBC/Next Level club team and two years ago helped them to a 9th place finish at AAU Nationals U15 Division. Harris’ club teammate Lillian Pitts, another 6-1 forward from Shaker Heights High School committed to Miami (Ohio). Like Harris she also led her high school team to the regional playoffs.
Pepperdine secured a verbal commitment from one of the Bay-Area’s top guards in Jazmine Jackson. Jackson is a three-star rated prospect who can play either guard position and is a very good creator on offense.
Megan Daniel, a three year letter winner senior guard from Cy-Fair High school and a six year member of Cy-Fair Shock 90 has committed to play at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport. “Megan made the best of her opportunities this past summer and made a great decision based on academics and continuing her basketball career,” Cy Fair Shock Coach Al Coleman added. “Megan becomes the 1st member of our team to announce her decision, however, expect more to come in the coming weeks.”
