"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things."

Another week has passed and we have prepared more and more. The scrimmage with Premier Players went very well. It was a time to put the things we have learned into action. The team did very well but ,of course, there are always things to improve upon. We ended up winning that scrimmage with a score of 102 to 76 (give or take a few.)
Throughout the week, we have scrimmaged against our practice team. The team consists of all males. Now, this is sometimes a heated topic, and I cannot see how anyone could not like the idea. Playing against guys helps us every time we step out on the court with them. Men obviously are built different than women. They make us stronger and they push us harder than most women could. It also is a confidence booster. What I mean is, if you are able to take them to the goal and take the hits that they put on you, it makes it easier to step out onto the court (against women) with confidence. Men are quicker and stronger and that is just a fact of life, but we do not back down and that is why we are able to play the way we do. Being the best means playing against the best.

As you go through college and start to experience more things, you will find that you need a lot of help. You will need academic advisors, writing instructors, tutors, and one of my favorites - athletic trainers. Every day before I go to practice I visit the training room facility. We have the best athletic trainers that you will ever find and I am not just being biased. I know that they are the glue that keeps me together. You will get a lot of minor cuts and other aches and pains, but that is all very normal. The good thing is they are there to keep me together and our program is very lucky to have them all. Tutors and other academic aid come in very handy as well. These are people who stay in study hall until 10 at night, Monday through Thursday. They are the people who are kind enough to help you and make appointments for you whenever you need it. These are the people who dedicate their lives to educating and helping the future. Never forget that there are a lot of little things that come together behind the scene to make each individual great.
Now, on a very different point, I now can say that I have experienced my first Halloween on Franklin Street. It was so crazy on Halloween night. People come from all over the state just to spend Halloween night on Franklin Street. There were an estimated 50,000 plus on Franklin Street that night. I saw a lot of things that I had never seen before and a lot of really good costumes. What happens is people come and just walk up and down Franklin, see other costumes, and take pictures with random people. It was very fun, I must say.
Tuesday night we will be hosting the China National team. We have watched film and prepared the best we can and all that is left to do is play. I am sure they are very excited to be here. Can you imagine being picked to represent your whole country and travel to other places and play basketball? That would be a dream, and they are living it. We have also made sure that we make this experience the best it can be for them. Keeping in mind that this is a game and we play to win.
College has a lot of obstacles that it will throw at you. In my life right now I have so much studying, practice, and other things that are going through my mind. I think I am doing a good job of balancing everything and staying on top of it all. It would be very easy to fall behind but I will not let myself. I am a competitor and I have pride in my work academically and athletically. If you plan on succeeding in life then you must find the mindset that fits you. If you know you will succeed then you will. If you think you will fail then that is the destiny you have chosen for yourself. Basketball is somewhat physical but a whole lot more mental. Have a strong mind and a good work ethic is the key to success. Rise above all the other distractions life will throw at you and be great!
The season officially will start on Friday night. We will play North Carolina Central University at Carmichael Auditorium. Then, Sunday afternoon, college women’s basketball officially kicks off. We are hosting the State Farm Hall of Fame Classic and the games will be played in the Dean Smith Center (where the men play their home games). It will be covered by ESPN and everyone is very excited. Game One is UNC vs. Arizona State at 2:30 and the second will be Oklahoma taking on Maryland following shortly after.
It is almost time for everyone to kick off the season. The most important thing is to make sure you keep working hard and see your goals at hand. Never lose focus of what the team is trying to achieve and the ways you can help.
"Seize the moment!"
Until next time, stay cool and keep ballin' ya’ll.
