Georgetown coach Terri Williams-Flournoy continued to engineer a Hoyas recruiting renaissance, landing a commitment from the second HoopGurlz Hundred prospect in little more than a week.
The latest verbal is from Latia Magee, from Jenks, Okla., a multitalented, 6-foot-2 forward ranked No. 86 in the 2008 class by HoopGurlz.com.
Williams-Flournoy also received a commitment from Alexa Roche, from Bellmore, N.Y., who is ranked 47th in the HoopGurlz Hundred. Though only 5-11, Roche is an explosive player in the paint and, like Magee, has the ballhandling skills to play on the perimeter and be dangerous in the open court.
In another commitment just before the weekend, Jennifer Lane, a 5-9 point guard from Wichita, Kan., verballed to Virginia Commonwealth. Lane averaged 13.7 points, 7.5 assists and 4.6 steals in leading Wichita Heights to a second straight State 6A championship. She has been selected to all-state and all-city teams the past two seasons.
Georgetown's other 2008 commitment is from Tia McBride, a 6-1 burner from Cincinnati, Ohio. Not only is Williams-Flournoy's class geographically diverse, it has perimeter size and mobility.
Magee has the best size of the three, but truly is a perimeter player who possibly can swing between wing and a little guard. She is a capable ballhandling with both hands and is a force in transition. She also has an emerging shot from distance, last year, as an example, delivering victory for Jenks in its own Invitational Tournament with a buzzer-beating three-pointer. Magee drove the length of the court - her specialty - to get the shot off.
