FSU Inks Howard

Posted Tue, 06/12/2007 - 11:11 The Seminoles continue their recruiting role by landing Antoinette Howard, who'd earlier gained her release from Florida.
Florida State coach Sue Semrau continues to build on her team's success, adding the No. 55 player in the 2007 class to her incoming freshman class.
Semrau's latest signing is Antionette Howard, the super-smooth forward from South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, Ga. Howard joins another player ranked in the HoopGurlz.com Hot 100, Courtney Ward, the 5-foot-7 combo guard from Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Ala.
Ward was ranked No. 59 in the final 2007 rankings by HoopGurlz.com.
Florida State is coming off its first-ever Sweet Sixteen appearance and third straight 20-win season (24-8, 20-10, 24-10) . The Seminoles finished the season ranked No. 19 in the USA Today poll. They also showed a knack for finding talent, even if they are lesser known, as freshman Jacinta Monroe took home ACC Rookie of the Year honors. Semrau had a solid young group supplementing their do-everything senior Alicia Gladden.
Howard previously was released from her National Letter of Intent with Florida because of former coach Carolyn Peck’s departure. “We really felt Coach Peck would be a great mentor for (Antio)nette,” her father, Delano, said at the time.
Howard had well over 30 Division I scholarship offers at the time she committed to Florida and among those programs recruiting her were many big names, including Georgia, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Rutgers and Tennessee. She is a very skilled wing player who has great size and mobility. She is quicker than most forwards and stronger and bigger than most guards. She also has more of a pro build for a guard or wing.
If Florida State can win the Chasity Clayton sweepstakes the Seminoles really would be making the statement they are ready to stay among the elite programs in perhaps the toughest conference in the country.
