Evaluating Talent

This weekend was one of the most exciting times of my life. I stepped into the world of evaluating basketball players for the first time. I now understand what Glenn, Chris, and other people do and how hard it really is to do it.
I am so proud of my basketball background and how it is such a tradition in my family. Both of my parents played, their parents coached and the line keeps going on. I am from Kentucky, which we all know is definitely a basketball state. I live, breathe, and dream of basketball and how it works. I know that some people might think that I am just a kid out here and I might be too young to be evaluating basketball players. But, to me, I take it very serious. I am here for the good of girl’s basketball and I want to see all the players I can and help them get the exposure they deserve.
As a player, I know how hard I play every time I step on the court. The very reason I got the exposure that I did as a high school player was because of my work ethic, and how Hoopgurlz is so reliable and exposes players so well. I know that there are plenty of girls out there waiting to be seen and it is our job to give them a fair shot. Hoopgurlz and the people who work with the site understand the game and are here for only one reason, and that is to help girl’s basketball players.

I am so thankful that Glenn and Chris sacrificed so much to start this site. You would be amazed at what kind of magic this site has to offer. College coaches use this site to check out players and it could be the very reason a school comes and checks out a game that you’re playing in. I can assure you that you will not meet a more genuine guy when it comes to Glenn. I had dinner with him Thursday night and I could just tell he had a passion for the game. It is a rare occasion for me to find someone who loves the game as much as I do. It’s even harder for me to meet someone who shares the basketball knowledge that I have acquired over the past years. Glenn did both, and I thank him for the opportunity he has given me to be a small part of Hoopgurlz.
Anyway, this weekend was so great and I felt that it ran very smoothly. Glenn stayed with me on Friday and showed me how he does things. Friday night, he said good-bye and told me the rest of the weekend was up to me. I wasn’t very nervous because he taught me the ropes and prepared me very well. Honestly, how awesome is it to just watch basketball all weekend long and get to see so many players!
Watching the games was so enjoyable to me. There was so much talent and potential out on the court last weekend. I saw everything from lightning-quick point guards to six-foot-six post players who could potentially dunk in the near future. The sound of squeaking shoes and whistles is something that puts me at ease. You feel comfortable in an atmosphere that you are familiar with and it just takes you away in your own little world. Well, I think it is easy to tell that my little world is one that I would love to share with anyone, and that’s the game of basketball.
I don’t know what my future holds, but I know it will always involve the game of basketball. Once the game is apart of you, it will never leave you. If you stop playing because you graduated college or whatever the case may be, you know the passion is always there and the love for the game will be inside you forever. Keep polishing your game because there is always someone else out there getting better. Keep working hard and know that there are always people out there watching you and sometimes when you least expect it.
Until next time, stay cool and keep ballin’ y’all!
