Is it my understanding that Laura is/was hurt and it has affected her play this year?

Yes, unfortnately, Laura suffered an ACL tear last season. She played in the summer, but was just starting to regain the explosiveness that made her so great. I've not seen her this winter, however. Someone else may have to comment.
