Jasmine Dixon will join Nikki Speed & Brooklyn Pope at Rutgers
The ink is just barely dry from the Brooklyn Pope commitment story for Rutgers and they are striking the headlines again from New Brunswick. The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers have received another verbal commitment from a top prospect, this time it is Jasmine Dixon. Dixon is ranked No. 26 according to HoopGurlz.com and has shown the ability to be an impact player at the next level. Dixon chose Rutgers over Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, California and UCLA. Dixon is a powerful slasher who has an incredibly explosive first step and the uncanny ability to get to the basket and finish with contact. Her game fits with an up and down tempo and she can also punish smaller defenders inside. Her ability to create off the dribble got her lots of national acclaim early in her career. Her powerful build and aggressivness translate well to the next level. Dixon commits not more than a week after her long time travel club teammate, Nikki Speed, picked head coach C. Vivian Stringer's program. Along with the recent commitment of Brooklyn Pope, ranked No. 9 in the class by HoopGurlz, the program is stockpiling versatile backcourt players. Both Dixon and Pope have the athleticism to play multiple positions and are physicall strong players who thrive in transition and Speed is a point guard that compliments them well. Add these prospects to an impressive collection of underclassmen currently on the Rutgers roster and the potential to continue competing for national championships. Dixon is a member of the undisputed preseason No. 1 ranked high school team, Long Beach Polytechnic High School. There she is surrounded by college bound high school players and should contend yet again for the mythical National Championship which many think will be decided this December in Phoenix at the Nike Tournament of Champions. The commitment of Dixon and Speed, both from California and Pope from Texas gives their roster a new flare geographically as the current roster is comprised primarily of players from New Jersey and New York. This goes to show that a trip the National Championship can impact recruiting immediately and the staff is making the most of it.
