OREGON CITY, Ore. - Although her team was knocked off in the bracket semifinals, and she struggled here at the End of the Trail, Kelsey Bone of Sugar Land, Texas, remains the likely No. 1 player in the 2009 class. And befitting a top-ranked player, the 6-foot-3 post has a long list of suitors.

When asked for a list of schools, Bone rattled off Cal, Connecticut, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Oregon State, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, UCLA and Washington.

The newest development for Bone is her affection for the Pac-10, partly the product of her playing for Southern California-based West Coast Elite. Cal is new to her list because ex-club coach Kevin Morrison just landed an assistant coaching job, she said. Oregon State is on the list because West Coast Elite held pre-tournament practice sessions on the Beavers' campus, where Bone said she became smitten with coach LaVonda Wagner. Washington is on the list, Bone said, because of new coach Tia Jackson who, like Wager, formerly was an assistant at Duke.

Bone emphasized that her list "is just a list.''

"I'm so wide open right now," she added, "it's not even funny."

What also was is not funny is the state of Bone's left ankle and both knees. She turned the ankle just before the Nike Skills Academy and it swelled terribly during the four-day event. Her knees, which have been an issue because of growth spurts, bothered her throughout the opening club tournament of the July evaluation period.

RIM SHOTS
After engineering a huge win for the Tulsa Swoosh over West Coast Elite and a near-miss against Exodus, Angel Goodrich of Tahlequah, Okla., and Liz Lay of Oklahoma City, Okla., are certain to blow up, recruiting-wise. Goodrich already has near-legendary status in Oklahoma, particularly after scoring 26 points to lead Sequoyah High School (376 enrollment; Class 3A) to victory in the championship of the Oklahoma’s Best Girls Basketball Tournament over Class 6A Sapulpa and star 6-3 center Alyssia Brewer. Goodrich presently is considering Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa. The 5-5 guard said she wants to take official visits before committing. The Barkley-esque Lay also wants to take all five of her official visits. The Southeast High star said she is being pursued by most of the schools in the Big 12, Louisville, Michigan State, Syracuse and several Ivy League schools. ... Ashley Corral of Vancouver, Wash., who may be the most hotly recruited, non-committed point guard in the country, will hear from her orthopedic surgeon on July 17 whether she needs to have another operation on her ankle. She had surgery back in March to repair ligaments that were believed to have been torn since she was a ninth grader. Corral said her ankle bothered her considerably during the End of the Trail. ... Nearly the entire roster of the Cal Swish Black No. 1 team is off the boards. Monica DeAngelis of Windward High School and Mika Maly-Karros of Mia Costa committed to Loyola Marymount, T.J. Goddard of Troy High School verbaled to Utah State, Jhakia McDonald of Magnolia committed to Arizona, Atonye Nyingifa pledged to UCLA, Kristen Riley of San Clemente verbaled to BYU and Amanda Sims committed to Texas Christian. From the Swish Black 2 team, Amani Butler of Colony and Tianna Ware of Ridgenew commited to Arizona. ... Courtney Jones of Midfield, Ala., the No. 54 player in 2008, according to HoopGurlz.com, is down to seven schools - Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Ole Miss and Temple. The 6-2 forward, who averaged 18.7 points and 14.3 rebounds this past high-school season, plans to sign during the early signing period.
